Hidden reason why Manchester United player Antony was allowed to take their penalty vs Barnsley in the EFL cup
In the League Cup, Antony got his first goal of the season from the penalty spot as Man United beat Barnsley 7-0.
Manager Erik ten Hag of Manchester United revealed that Marcus Rashford let Antony take his penalty during United’s 7-0 League Cup win over Barnsley.
Antony won Rashford a penalty kick in the 35th minute, and he was about to take it when Casemiro passed the ball to his fellow countryman, who scored to put United ahead 2-0.
United has four wingers this season. Alejandro Garnacho has scored four goals, Marcus Rashford has scored three, and Antony and Amad have each scored one.
Ten Hag agreed that all four of them are pushing each other. “That sounds good to me.” I believe they are driven and hungry, but you can also see that they pass the ball to each other.
“They also help each other score goals, like the pen,” Antony says when he needs to boost his confidence. As a team, Rashy gives Antony the pen, which is a good thing because they are working together.
Garnacho has also set up three goals this season; he made both of Rashford’s goals against Barnsley, even though he has only started two games.
Ten Hag denied rumors that he is dropping players, so the 20-year-old could be back on the bench for Saturday’s Premier League game at Crystal Palace, where Amad is playing very well.
“Yeah, there will be rotation and the conclusion from all of you is not right when I pick 11 that I drop a player,” said Ten Hag. I choose my starting eleven because I know I have to change them.
“We have more than 11 players who can be in the line-up of any match in this moment.”
