Portu played amazingly well in the second half, which helped Girona beat Barcelona. This meant that Real Madrid won La Liga for the 36th time.
Girona is now officially in the UEFA Champions League for next season. They moved ahead of Barcelona in second place, mostly because of the effect of substitute Portu, who came on with his team down 2-1.
He scored with his first touch after Artem Dovbyk passed the ball to him without expecting anything in return. Two minutes later, he ran into the area and passed to Miguel Guiterrez, whose blocked shot gave the home team the lead.
After that, he scored one of the best goals of the season by volleying a cross-field pass past Marc-Andre ter Stegen from the edge of the box.
Before he got there, it looked like Andreas Christensen’s and Robert Lewandowski’s goals at the beginning and end of the first half would give Barcelona the win and potentially keep the title race alive.
After the win, Girona is now one point ahead of Barcelona with four games left. Real is 13 points ahead of Cadiz at the top of the table after beating them yesterday.
