Erik ten Hag will try to add to Manchester United’s roster this summer after the team missed out on qualifying for the Champions League.
Erik ten Hag would have a lot of choices if Manchester United are able to sign Federico Chiesa this summer. The 26-year-old forward’s future at Juventus is becoming less certain as his deal in Turin runs out next year.
Last season, Chiesa played 33 times for the Old Lady in Serie A, hitting nine goals and setting up three others. Even though they had some bad games and finished 23 points behind champions Inter Milan, he still managed to surprise.
The Italy player has been given a starting spot in Roberto Mancini’s team at Euro 2024, where they will try to defend their title. It’s been said that Chiesa wants to move to the Premier League since he hasn’t signed a new deal with Juventus yet.
An Italian newspaper called La Gazzetta dello Sport says that Juventus wants to sign Mason Greenwood but won’t pay the £42 million that United wants and is asking. According to the story, the Old Lady are looking at other ways to close a deal. For example, Chiesa could go to Old Trafford as part of a swap deal.
This summer, Juventus already showed they were willing to trade players by getting Douglas Luiz in return for Enzo Barrenechea, Samuel Iling Jr., and cash. The Manchester Evening News has looked at three different ways United could play on the first weekend of the Premier League season with Chiesa in the team.
4-2-3-1
Since taking over at United, Ten Hag has often used a 4-2-3-1 formation. The Red Devils could have one of the most dangerous threats in the Premier League if they set up their defense in a practical way.
United will make any defense afraid with Chiesa on the right, Marcus Rashford on the left, Bruno Fernandes as the number 10 player, and Rasmus Hojlund in charge of the line. Also, Alejandro Garnacho and anyone else Sir Jim Ratcliffe brings to Old Trafford will be able to come off the bench. Anyone know Joshua Kimmich?
4-3-3
There are a lot of similarities between a 4-2-3-1 and a 4-3-3, but the wingers will be expected to help Hojlund more. If Chiesa and Rashford want to stretch the other team’s defense or work together with the Dane, they will have to put in a lot of work.
He also works very hard, which is exactly what Ten Hag needs, especially if United want to keep up their high level of play throughout the season, which is likely to include at least one cup run.
