How the Premier League positions of Newcastle United, Manchester United, and West Ham have been affected by VAR
The influence of VAR on the Premier League positions of Newcastle United, Manchester United, and West Ham UnitedVAR continues to dominate the news, but what has it done to Newcastle United’s division position this season?Newcastle
United’s initial two games of the Premier League season were significantly affected by VAR, as the Magpies perceived themselves as having been unfairly treated and perceived the officials at Stockley Park as having been advantageous.Eddie Howe’s team was left to regret a decision by the
VAR officials to permit a controversial red card to be shown to defender Fabian Schar after a collision with Saints forward Ben Brereton-Diaz on the opening day of the season, as the Magpies secured a 1-0 victory at home against Southampton. The Chilean international appeared to capitalise on the lack of communication from Schar, and the decision was criticised by numerous media commentators. Nevertheless, Schar’s red card was upheld, prompting Howe to query a significant decision made by the on-field and off-field officials.
After the game, the Magpies’ manager stated, “I believe it is an overly harsh decision against Fabi. However, it is widely recognised that the referee is not permitted to issue a red card, so we will take this as a lesson.” The significant inquiry is whether you would prefer to receive a red card for that. Is Fabi’s action sufficient to justify a red card? I am uncertain.
Nevertheless, United were appreciative of a VAR intervention eight days later, as a late goal from Dango Outtara appeared to have doomed the Magpies to a 2-1 loss at Bournemouth.. The goal was promptly reviewed by VAR and subsequently disallowed due to the Cherries’ star’s handling of the ball, despite the fact that there were minimal protests from Newcastle players. The Magpies were able to secure a point as a result of that judgement, and the opposition manager was left to dispute the off-field call.
Andoni Iraola, the head coach of Bournemouth, stated, “We should have won the game.” I will file a complaint, but it will not result in any action. We have forfeited two points. I am not against the referee, as he was unable to observe the goal and did not have the opportunity to access the monitor. If afforded the opportunity, I am confident that he would deliver the goal.
I am entirely certain. However, this opportunity is not available to him. They consistently assert that it is a factual decision; however, it is not. We viewed the video; the ball accelerates significantly after it strikes the shoulder. VAR remains a significant factor in the Premier League; however, what would have been the current standings if the video officials had not been implemented, and how would Newcastle’s position have been affected?
Premier League standings without VAR 1. Liverpool has 23 points (-2). 2. Manchester City has 21 points (-2). 3. Nottingham Forest (0) 19 points 4. Chelsea (0) 18 points 5. Arsenal has 18 points. 6.
