It was right of Cristiano Ronaldo. Exactly 18 months after leaving Manchester United, it is clear that the things he said that made the Red Devils fire him were true.
The five-time Ballon d’Or winner said mean things about the club as a whole, but the Dutch coach got extra bad press.
“He doesn’t respect me, so I don’t respect him either.” Ronaldo, who now plays for Al-Nassr in the Saudi Pro League, said, “If you don’t respect me, I’ll never respect you.”
“I believe the people should understand the truth. I want the club to do well. That’s why I visit Manchester United.
“As Picasso said, ‘Every act of creation is first an act of destruction,'” I believe it was. It doesn’t bother me if they start with me anyway.”
In fact, Manchester United did start with Ronaldo, letting him go by mutual agreement. It was clear that the happy ending to his fairy tale return had turned into a nightmare.
United should have paid attention to Ronaldo.
At the time, it looked like this was just a former celebrity getting angry. At that point in the season, Ronaldo had only scored two goals in the Premier League, and one of them was as a replacement.
He was put on as a replacement, which was something he had never done before in his career. It looked like he was just looking for someone to blame since he was getting close to the end of his top-level European career.
But things that happened afterward make Ronaldo look much better. He’s not the only player Ten Hag has had a bad relationship with, after all.
No matter what you say about Cristiano, one thing about his game that can’t be questioned is the way he thinks. His level of discipline and drive to win have been better than anyone else’s in his career.
But Ten Hag wasn’t able to use this energy in the right way, just like he wasn’t able to get Jadon Sancho to improve his game when the winger was said to have gone too far in the other direction.
He came in with a reputation for being strict, but he couldn’t manage anyone right.
While “CR7” and Sancho were kicked off for not following the rules, Marcus Rashford kept his starting spot despite a controversial trip to Belfast outside of school.
Neither Ten Hag nor his team has been able to get a handle on their behavior nor their play on the field. If Manchester United had only listened to Ronaldo in 2022, they could have avoided a lot of trouble.
