“I see Cody Fajardo as our man under centre,” says Edmonton Elks camp, intent on re-signing their QB amid his retirement deliberation.

The Edmonton Elks have made their preference clear for next season’s starting quarterback, but the final call isn’t theirs to make.

During Saturday’s locker clean-out day, head coach Mark Kilam voiced his strong wish to see Cody Fajardo return under centre, praising his leadership and determination.
“I’d love Cody to be our quarterback,” Kilam said. “He’s got that edge — the team feeds off it.”

While Fajardo remains undecided about his future, general manager Ed Hervey remains hopeful, noting the veteran’s belief in the team’s young core as a major positive.

“Cody’s exactly the kind of player we envisioned when we traded for him,” Hervey said. “We’d love to see him back.”

Fajardo, 33, acknowledged the decision won’t be easy, emphasizing that it will be a family choice as he contemplates retirement. Still, if he does play in 2026, he wants it to be in Edmonton.
“If I play football next year, it’ll be here,” he confirmed. “I’d love nothing more than to lead this team back to the playoffs.”
