I thought I was honking” – Bailey Cadamarteri’s honest admission after Sheffield Wednesday exit
Bailey Cadamarteri has admitted he was far from satisfied with his final appearance for Sheffield Wednesday before completing his move to Wrexham.
By the time the 20-year-old stepped out at Hillsborough to face Wrexham on January 31, speculation surrounding interest from the Red Dragons had already begun to circulate.
Final outing in Wednesday colours
Speaking on That Wrexham Podcast, the Jamaica international reflected candidly on his last game for the Owls.
“I must have been unbelievable — I thought I was honking,” he joked. “But I got the nod after, so I must have done alright.
“It was one of those games. I don’t know if the interest from Wrexham was playing on my mind, but I just felt like things weren’t going right for me there. There were a few good bits in the game, but after it I was thinking, ‘I’m not getting the message after this one.’”
Despite his self-criticism, Cadamarteri completed the full 90 minutes in what proved to be a 1-0 defeat for the Championship’s bottom side.
He added that he tried to treat the fixture like any other.
“I just approached it as normal. I’ve got my dad and my agent in my ear saying, ‘It’s just another game — look forward to it, do what you do.’”
Early chapters of his career
A product of Sheffield Wednesday’s academy, Cadamarteri has long been regarded as one of the club’s brightest prospects.
He led the line during a challenging period for the Owls and departed having scored seven goals in 57 appearances. During his time at Hillsborough, he also enjoyed a productive loan spell at Lincoln City, registering eight goals in 31 outings.
Reflecting on his career so far, the forward admitted the journey has been both rewarding and eye-opening.
“It’s been good, to be fair. It’s been eye-opening as well. When you’re a young lad growing up, you don’t expect time to fly as quickly as it has.
“You’re waiting and waiting for that first game when you’re coming through as a scholar. Then I’m sat here now on nearly 100 games thinking, ‘Where has that time gone?’”
Now at Wrexham, Cadamarteri will hope the next chapter of his career brings renewed confidence — and fewer moments where he feels he’s been “honking.”
