Today, Manchester United plays Fulham in the Premier League. Even though Andre Onana is back in the team, Altay Bayindir will start in goal.
Ruben Amorim said he chose “the best players to win the game” when asked why Altay Bayindir was picked over Andre Onana for the game against Fulham.
The weekend before, Manchester United lost 1-0 to Arsenal, and Bayindir was to blame.
The Turkey international missed the target when he tried to block an Arsenal corner kick, but Amorim stuck with Bayindir against Fulham and put Onana on the bench.
Onana practiced three times before the first game of the season after getting over a hamstring injury. But he wasn’t in the team that played Arsenal, so he had to settle for a spot on the bench when he got back.
“It’s the same kind of choice a manager has to make,” Amorim told Sky Sports. I try to picture the next game and see the game. When I play, I try to put together the best teams. That’s what I did.”
The head coach of United has also put Benjamin Sesko on the bench at Craven Cottage.
“We try to picture what will happen during the game,” Amorim said about the choice. “The way we control the game needs to be the same every time.” From the bench, we need to be able to play different games.
“Sesko has been with us for two weeks, so it’s trying to figure out what’s going on.” I try to picture what these little things mean to the player. There are times when we have to wait a little while before we can help a player. We only want to win.
United wants to sign Senne Lammens from Royal Antwerp before the transfer deadline. This makes it even less clear what will happen with Bayindir and Onana at Old Trafford.
