“I want” – Newcastle United coach Eddie Howe break silence and gave his answer concerning replacing the 53-year-old Gareth Southgate to become new England manager after Euro 2024
The possibility of Eddie Howe succeeding Gareth Southgate as the manager of England has been brought up once more in recent times.
If Gareth Southgate decides to step down from his position as England manager this summer, the Football Association has a succession plan in place. In accordance with the chief executive officer of the FA, Mark Bullingham, Southgate’s future will be evaluated at the conclusion of the Euro 2024 tournament.
Bullingham made the following statement while he was speaking at England’s training base in Germany: “Any organization really does have a succession plan into place for their top employees.” We do not depart from that in any way.
“In most cases, this succession plan encompasses everything from the strategies you employ for providing short-term cover to the procedures you follow when selecting candidates. The best staff are eligible for that.
I would like to show Gareth and the squad that we appreciate them for the fact that they are really focused on the competition, and we would like to make sure that they are supported in that manner. Clearly, you are constantly planning a wide variety of possible scenarios for each and every one of your top employees.
Gareth has made it quite clear that he intends to discuss the matter after the tournament is over. For the sake of both him and the squad, I do not wish to create any kind of distraction. I would like to show appreciation for the fact that they are interested in discussing the future after the competition takes place.
Eddie Howe, the head coach of Newcastle United, is considered to be one of the leading candidates to succeed Southgate in the position of team manager in the event that the Football Association decides to move on from the former Middlesbrough defender. Throughout his tenure not only on Tyneside but also at Bournemouth, Howe has been predicted to become a future England manager. He has been instrumental in guiding Newcastle United from a team that was on the verge of relegation to a team that is now currently competing in the Champions League.
During Gary Neville’s interview on the Overlap radio show, Howe was recently questioned by Neville on his thoughts on the possibility of becoming England’s manager in the future.
Howe had the following response: “It’s a peculiar one for me because, when I’m in this mode, I’m completely unaware of everything.” This is not a cliched answer; rather, it is the truth. I am so focused on the day-to-day aspects of the situation. When I look about, I don’t bother to look at what’s going on or what other people are saying.
“When it comes to the national team, the most memorable moments for me were when I got to watch you, Neville, play for England. That era was very much me when I was in my younger years, when I was developing a love for England and wanting them to be successful, and when I had that horrible sensation of devastation when we didn’t quite make it over the line.
I was completely engrossed in the experience of watching the national team, and I cherished that feeling. I am a huge fan of England, and I have high hopes that they will be able to win the European Championships this summer.
“I have a lot of love for Gareth, and I am really determined for England to come out on top. Honestly, I’ve never given much thought to the topic of international football. In the future, who can say for sure what will take place?
England made it all the way to the championship match of the delayed European Championships in 2020, but they were ultimately lost by Italy on penalties. This was England’s first major final since they won the World Cup in 1966. At the beginning of the tournament that will take place in Germany this summer, the Three Lions will be considered one of the favorites to go the distance.
Southgate has led England to a quarterfinal in the World Cup, a semifinal in the European Championships, and a final in the European Championships during his tenure as England’s national team coach.
