Manchester United
I witnessed what Manchester United Legend Wayne Rooney did after humiliating a Celtic star for Manchester United Legends, and it was a very telling moment.
After drawing Celtic Legends in a charity game on Saturday to raise money for the Manchester United Foundation, Manchester United Legends were let down by penalties.
Favorites among fans Wayne Rooney and Dimitar Berbatov were the talk of the town before the game, and Rooney lived up to the hype. His great free kick brought back memories of years ago just before halftime, giving the home team the lead at the break.
Gary Hooper helped Celtic get back on track, and they beat United on penalties. Here are some things that people who watched at home might not have seen.
Thank you for nutmeg
Rooney scored the first goal for United, but he had already made the home fans cry and cheer a few minutes before that. The attacker nutmegged Celtic’s Joe Ledley, which made a lot of people respond.
Because the trick was so good, even Ledley gave Rooney a shy but grateful low-five, which he took. The sign of a man who sometimes knows he’s better than everyone else
A nice touch by United
There were more than just heroes on the field and in the dugout. United welcomed back Albert Morgan, who had been their kit guy for 20 years, behind the scenes.
He was seen in the locker room with a captain’s badge on.
Rooney gets a warm welcome.
People inside Old Trafford were thrilled to see Rooney back in United colors. When early fans got to the stadium, they gave the former scorer a loud applause while cameras were fixed on the Plymouth Argyle manager.
Before the game, he and manager-for-the-day Bryan Robson stood for official pictures. The most people cheered when he was introduced during the warm-up before his first Legends match.
Charlie Mulgrew of Celtic made a funny, sarcastic joke to Denis Irwin as he took his penalty kick. It didn’t matter what was said to him; he fired home.
Celtic fans were loud and cheered for their team the whole game, which is a good thing. When they booed United players, they were happy to act like bad guys because they wanted to make a point.
While the Scots were in the Champions League, the hosts were not. Celtic made sure to tell them of this. Everything was done politely and in a happy mood.
