Reports say Pep Guardiola will leave Manchester City at the end of the season. He has already said where he wants his future to go from here.

Pep Guardiola has talked about his plans for after he leaves Manchester City in the past.

Guardiola is committed to staying at the Etihad until the end of his deal, but it looks like he won’t be staying for another year. The Daily Mail said that he is likely to leave at the end of the 2024–25 season.

Having been able to do it without a break since 2013, it looks like they will need some time off. But he has made it clear that he wants to become a manager of the national team before he retires as a teacher.

When asked by ESPN Brasil in February what his next football goal was, Guardiola said, “A national team.” For a World Cup or a European Championship, I’d like to coach a home country team. That sounds good to me.

Even though he didn’t say which country it was, it seems possible that it was his home country of Spain. The Express says that their present manager, Luis de la Fuente, is under contract until the end of the 2026 World Cup.

Guardiola said this about his long-term goals: “I don’t know who would want me! Like a club, the national team has to want you to work for them. What ever it is, I’d like to live through a World Cup, a Euro, a Copa America, or something else.

“That sounds good to me. A World Cup boss would be a great experience for me. I don’t know when that would be—five, ten, or fifteen years from now.”

Guardiola didn’t say much when he talked about City’s record-setting fourth straight Premier League win. “The reality is I am closer to leaving than staying [after next season],” he said. “We talked to the club, and I feel like I want to stay now.” I’ll stay for next season, and we’ll talk during the season. We’ll see in eight or nine years.

“Right now I don’t know what the drive is to do it [next season], because it’s hard to find it when everything is over.” But I know the players and myself well enough to know that we will say, “Why shouldn’t we win today?” when we get there. Why shouldn’t we work hard to get things done? I am sure that we will succeed.

Guardiola also gave hints that he was ready to move on after the treble win last year: “After Istanbul, I said, ‘It’s over, there’s nothing left.'” But I agreed to stay here, so I am.

“There are times when I’m tired, but there are also times when I love being here with new players and winning games.” I feel like no one has done four in a row yet, so let’s give it a shot. I think it’s over now, so what’s next?”
