Newcastle United captain Bruno Guimaraes has said something about the team’s most recent transfers.
Guimaraes led Newcastle to win the Carabao Cup and make it into the Champions League in his first season as captain, 2024–25.
As the club gets ready for another season back in the Champions League, business with other teams is picking up.
Newcastle has now signed three professional players, and more are on the way. Deals are also being made to let players leave.
When a Newcastle United transfer is announced, Bruno Guimaraes responds.
Newcastle confirmed late Tuesday night that they had signed AC Milan centre back Malick Thiaw to a four-year deal. With add-ons, the deal is worth up to £34.3 million.
It’s Newcastle’s third big summer deal after Anthony Elanga and Aaron Ramsdale. Thiaw comes in after them.
Newcastle posted a picture of Thiaw on Instagram with the statement “A new local is in town” after it was confirmed that Thiaw would be joining the team. We are excited to say that we have signed back Malick Thiaw on a long-term deal from AC Milan in Italy.
Guimaraes shared the post on his own Instagram account, alongside the message “Welcome bro @Malick.Laye.”
Thiaw will wear the No. 12 shirt at Newcastle, and he will be in the team for Saturday’s season start at Aston Villa beginning at 12:30 p.m.
Thiaw told Newcastle’s website, “I’m really excited to join this huge club,” after he signed. I can’t wait to begin training and meet my new staff and teammates.
“The manager told me what he wants to do with the club and with me as a player, which is really exciting.”
“I think Newcastle knows what it wants to say.” The club is great, and the fans are really into it. I can’t wait to see them at St. James’ Park.
An hour before Thiaw’s arrival was made public, Newcastle announced that Odysseas Vlachodimos would be leaving the team on loan to play for Sevilla in La Liga for the 2025–26 season.
The custodian for Greece’s national team moved from Nottingham Forest to Newcastle last summer for £20 million. Even though he was Newcastle’s record-breaking custodian purchase, the deal was called a “PSR swap” because Elliot Anderson went the other way for £35 million. This helped both teams meet the financial rules of the Premier League.
As a PSR pawn, Vlachadimos didn’t have much of a chance to make his move to Newcastle work, as he only played one replacement game in the Carabao Cup last season. Even though the 31-year-old didn’t sit on the bench very often, he was still able to make an impact on his teammates.
It was Guimaraes who was the first Newcastle player to wish Vlachodimos luck with his new job. He posted Sevilla’s news video on Instagram with the words “Good luck bro, I will miss you @Vlachod1mos.” Malaka.”
‘Malaka’, in this context, is a term of endearment in Greek slang, though its direct translation could be considered quite offensive.
