Under the guidance of Hansi Flick, Barcelona’s remarkable commencement to the 2024/25 season is being driven by Robert Lewandowski. The duo have since reignited their Bayern Munich formula, despite the fact that the veteran Polish international was linked with a potential move away from Catalonia prior to Flick’s arrival.
In a mere 16 appearances, Lewandowski has already tallied an extraordinary 19 goals across all competitions. Lewandowski, who will be 36 years old in August, remains as keen as ever, serving as the ideal focal point in Flick’s attack. His objective is to surpass the 20-league goal threshold, and he is on course to surpass his Barcelona season aggregate of 33 from his debut 2022/23 campaign.
The club is currently evaluating the various options available to them regarding Lewandowski’s contract, which contains numerous clauses, with the trust of Flick. Barcelona is prepared to activate a clause that would extend his contract by an additional 12 months until 2026, as per reports from Diario Sport, provided that he plays in 55% of the games for which he is eligible this season.
The specifics of that agreement suggest that the compensation will be reduced from €32 million per year to approximately €26 million in 2025/26. Barcelona is contemplating the possibility of extending his contract until 2027, with an additional compensation reduction, as the aforementioned requirement is anticipated to be a formality in the near future.
