Newcastle United’s summer signing Vakhtang Salia has yet to make an appearance for the club this season due to injury setbacks.
The young Georgian forward, who joined Newcastle from Dinamo Tbilisi on August 30, is still waiting to make his mark on Tyneside. Despite completing his move late in the summer window, Salia has not been officially unveiled by the club.
In an October 2024 statement, Newcastle confirmed that Salia’s transfer would be finalised once he turns 18 on August 30, 2025. Earlier this year, in January, Salia travelled to Newcastle to complete media commitments and meet manager Eddie Howe and other key staff members before heading back to Georgia.
Vakhtang Salia’s injury setback
Although now officially a Newcastle player, Salia has not featured for the team at any level so far. His continued absence is due to a hamstring injury that occurred shortly after joining.
The setback also ruled him out of Georgia’s Under-21 European Championship qualifier against Northern Ireland and delayed both his Under-21 debut and his formal unveiling at Newcastle. Additionally, it put a halt to a potential loan move the club had been exploring to help with his development.
Salia’s situation mirrors, on a smaller scale, the club’s current issue with £55 million deadline-day signing Yoane Wissa, who has also yet to train or play for Newcastle following a knee injury sustained after his arrival.
