Ipswich Town’s hopes of securing automatic promotion took a slight hit over the weekend after they were held to a 1-1 draw by Leicester City.
The Tractor Boys controlled large spells of the match at Portman Road on Saturday but were unable to find the decisive goal that would have kept them close to second-placed Middlesbrough.
One player Ipswich could have really used against the relegation-threatened Foxes was winger Jaden Philogene. The wide man has been one of the club’s standout performers this season, scoring ten goals in 26 appearances across all competitions.
However, the former Aston Villa youngster has been sidelined since picking up an injury during Ipswich’s 3-0 victory over Blackburn Rovers back in January.
McKenna and the Ipswich supporters will be hoping Philogene can return as soon as possible, given the impact he has made this season. His presence could prove crucial as the Tractor Boys push for promotion.
McKenna provides Philogene fitness update
Speaking during a pre-match press conference ahead of Ipswich’s upcoming clash with Stoke City, Kieran McKenna shared the latest on Philogene’s recovery, offering some encouraging news as the season enters its final stretch.
“He won’t be involved in this game. Hopefully he’ll begin team training this week.
“He’s doing some work with the coaching staff at the moment, but he’s not back training with the main group yet. Hopefully he’ll reach that stage at some point this week.”
“It would be great to have Jaden back. We have good players in those areas, but you always miss someone with Jaden’s quality and the different things he brings to the role, so it would be great to have him back.”
