Irish media criticise Ipswich Town star after poor Republic of Ireland display

Ipswich Town midfielder criticised after Ireland’s World Cup heartbreak ⚽😬

Ipswich Town midfielder Jack Taylor has come under criticism following his performance for the Republic of Ireland national team in their World Cup qualifying clash with the Czech Republic national team.

Ireland’s hopes of reaching the World Cup were dashed after a dramatic 2-2 draw ended in penalty defeat on Thursday night.

Ireland collapse after strong start

Heimir Hallgrímsson’s side looked in control early on, racing into a two-goal lead thanks to Troy Parrott and an own goal from Matěj Kovář.

However, the hosts mounted a comeback, with Patrik Schick and Ladislav Krejčí finding the net to force extra time and eventually penalties, where Ireland fell short.

Taylor struggles to impress

Taylor started the match in Prague but was unable to make a significant impact before being substituted in the second half.

According to Irish Times reporter Gordon Manning, the midfielder struggled to influence proceedings, picking up a booking early in the game and failing to stamp his authority in midfield. He was given a modest rating of 6/10 for his display.

Mixed night for Ipswich players

Taylor wasn’t the only Ipswich player involved. Dara O’Shea completed the full match, while loanees Chiedozie Ogbene and Sammie Szmodics also featured, with the latter involved in a concerning collision.

Focus shifts back to club ambitions

With international disappointment behind him, Taylor will now turn his attention back to Ipswich’s push for promotion under Kieran McKenna.

Competition for places remains fierce, but the midfielder will be determined to play his part as the Tractor Boys aim for a return to the Premier League.
