Rangers are not expected to finalise the signing of Westerlo left-back Tuur Rommens until later next week, despite progress being made behind the scenes.
The Belgian Under-21 international has been strongly linked with a move to Ibrox throughout January, with Rangers prioritising him ahead of alternatives such as AEK Athens full-back and former Hearts defender James Penrice.
Danny Röhl is also closing in on the arrival of Sturm Graz midfielder Tochi Chukwuani, with the Light Blues agreeing a deal in the region of £4 million, excluding add-ons and a sell-on clause.
However, negotiations with Westerlo over Rommens are still ongoing. According to BBC Sport journalist Tom English, the two clubs have yet to fully conclude an agreement, meaning an official announcement may still be several days away. Rommens is believed to have begun his medical in Glasgow on January 8, with Rangers set to pay an initial £2.6 million fee plus a further £430,000 in performance-related add-ons.
Röhl will be eager to see the deal wrapped up quickly as Rangers look to capitalise on their momentum in the William Hill Premiership, with Hearts firmly in their sights at the top of the table. Supporters are also hopeful that Rommens and Chukwuani will not be the only additions this month, with further reinforcements clearly needed.
Midfielder Dan Neil and winger Romaine Mundle of Sunderland remain on Rangers’ radar, potentially paving the way for departures from Ibrox. Youngsters Lyall Cameron and Findlay Curtis may need to seek regular minutes elsewhere should further signings arrive.
With both incomings and outgoings expected, January is shaping up to be a hectic transfer window for Rangers as Röhl continues to reshape his squad.
