“It is the truth” – Manchester United coach Erik ten Hag sends out a strong message after Newcastle United sits above them on the Premier League table
Manchester United placed eighth in the Premier League, and they only need to win one more game to make sure they play in Europe next season.
After beating Brentford 4–2, Newcastle United earned the top spot in the Premier League table, the first time in the league’s history. They finished ahead of Manchester United. After that win, Eddie Howe’s team finished in seventh place. If Manchester United loses their FA Cup final next weekend against Manchester City, they will play in the Conference League next season.
Newcastle and Manchester United were tied on points going into the game at the Gtech Community Stadium, but Newcastle had a much better goal difference and knew they only needed to share or beat Brighton’s result to finish ahead of them in the table. Even though there were some scary times in the second half, they were able to hold off Thomas Frank’s team.
The Red Devils, on the other hand, finished in eighth place, which was their worst finish since the 1989–90 season. The team led by Erik ten Hag knows they need to win next weekend or they will miss out on European football altogether. After their win over Brighton at the Amex Stadium, the Dutch manager had some strong words to say about his team’s season:
Ten Hag said, “By no means is it good enough.” “Even though we had less than 60 points two years ago” (58 points), eighth place is the worst finish.
“It’s true, but we should have done more.” Everyone knows the reasons behind it, but now is not the right time to talk about them. “It’s not good enough.”
Newcastle United, on the other hand, went right from the Gtech Community Stadium to the airport for their trip to Australia after the season.
