Kris Boyd Admits Celtic Legend Artur Boruc ‘Broke His Heart’ During Old Firm Battles

Celtic have long been a source of frustration for former Rangers striker Kris Boyd — both during his playing days and now in his role as a Sky Sports pundit.

Since the turn of the millennium, Boyd has witnessed Celtic dominate Scottish football, overtaking Rangers as the country’s most successful club. During his time at Ibrox between 2006 and 2010, the Hoops lifted three league titles, a period that left its mark on the ex-striker.

Reflecting on those years, Boyd confessed that one Celtic player in particular made life especially difficult for him — iconic goalkeeper Artur Boruc.

Boruc, affectionately nicknamed The Holy Goalie by Celtic fans, was a cult hero at Parkhead. Famous for his fearless attitude and fiery encounters with Rangers players, he also possessed remarkable reflexes that regularly frustrated Boyd and his teammates.

When asked by fellow pundit Chris Sutton on The Warm Up which goalkeeper “broke his heart,” Boyd didn’t hesitate to name the Polish stopper.

“I have to put my hands up — Boruc for me,” Boyd admitted. “My goal record against Celtic wasn’t great. That day when Mo Edu scored the winner at Ibrox, I was playing ping-pong with Boruc for about five minutes before Mo slammed it in. He was some keeper.”

Boruc’s time at Celtic was full of memorable moments, but one save still stands above the rest in the eyes of supporters — his stunning penalty stop against Louis Saha in a famous Champions League night at Celtic Park. The Polish keeper’s heroics helped secure a 1–0 win over Manchester United, a moment still cherished by the Hoops faithful.
