Manchester United suffered a 1-0 loss to Arsenal over the weekend, and Newcastle will visit Erik ten Hag’s squad a few days later.

Newcastle are in ideal position to secure a sixth-place result in the Premier League heading into their final two games of the season, according to Eddie Howe.

Wednesday night at Old Trafford, Manchester United faces Newcastle in a crucial matchup that will affect the fight for sixth place and European qualification.

With 54 points, Erik ten Hag’s squad trails both Chelsea and Newcastle, who each have 57. Brighton and the Magpies remain opponents for United in the division.

In February, Sir Jim Ratcliffe emphasised the significance of Manchester United’s Champions League participation, citing the effect it would have on FFP. Nevertheless, United are currently at risk of being eliminated from Europe entirely, as their Champions League aspirations have already been dashed.

The following weekend, they were defeated 1-0 by title-contending Arsenal, whereas Newcastle and Chelsea both held scoreless draws against Nottingham Forest and Brighton, respectively.

On Wednesday, in their final home game of the season against Newcastle, the Reds will have the chance to display some resiliency, but they will be up against a motivated opponent ravenous for a result.

Howe has commented on the match and, in response to a question regarding Newcastle’s dismal away record, stated: “We’re striving for consistency; things have been decent at times.

“I believe we’ve won a few solid games, particularly in the cups, but we haven’t had that sense that we’re going to string together victories; that hasn’t occurred.

“A rhythm has not yet been established on the road.” As you say, now is an excellent moment to do so; the opponents have won two games in rapid succession and are each extremely formidable.

“However, I believe we can proceed with confidence.” It has been a significant improvement in our overall play since the end of the season, which I believe we are doing well. “I believe that to be crucial.”

Howe further stated, “The situation is within our control. Our aim disparity is extremely substantial. You prefer it that way at all times; you have control over what you can influence; we are not obligated to consider alternative outcomes.

Nevertheless, nothing is taken for granted. We are cognizant of the severity that these two games will present. These are two enormous diversions. Doesn’t the Manchester United matchup appear to be flawlessly organized?

“That will be tremendous for us.” We will make every effort to achieve a favorable outcome, and Brentford will naturally manage the situation on the final day. However, as we’ve previously stated, it will likely continue until the very end.”

Last season, United defeated Newcastle in the Carabao Cup final, but in the three meetings since, the North East club has emerged victorious.

After 51 years, Newcastle has managed to secure only their second league victory at Old Trafford.
