Rangers have emerged as one of several clubs showing genuine interest in Kilmarnock’s highly rated midfielder David Watson.
According to former Hearts player Ryan Stevenson, the 20-year-old is firmly on the radar at Ibrox, with the club finally acting on long-standing calls—particularly from Derek Ferguson—for the Rangers hierarchy to test Kilmarnock’s resolve.
But Rangers aren’t alone in the chase. Stevenson believes that Hearts boss Derek McInnes should make a bold move to bring Watson to Tynecastle, reuniting the pair after their successful time together at Rugby Park.
With Nicolas Raskin potentially leaving in the near future, Danny Rohl may also be motivated to strengthen his midfield options, though securing Watson’s signature is expected to be a competitive battle given his rising profile.
Stevenson revealed that Hearts and Aberdeen are also vying for the midfielder, intensifying the pressure on any club hoping to strike a deal for the soon-to-be-out-of-contract talent. Writing in the Daily Record on November 20, he urged McInnes to go all out, stating that Watson—whom McInnes knows better than anyone—would be the perfect addition: “I’d love to see Derek bring another Scottish lad into the squad, and the standout option is Watson at Kilmarnock. His contract is winding down, and Del is the one who understands exactly what he can offer.”
