January Twist: Rangers Hinted at by Premier League Side as Target Endures Marathon FA Cup Clash

Rangers Receive Transfer Signal as Sunderland Star Shines in FA Cup Thriller

Rangers have signalled their interest in Sunderland duo Dan Neil and Romaine Mundle during the January transfer window, with recent team selections offering a tantalising glimpse of Mundle’s future at the Stadium of Light.

Despite struggling for minutes since Sunderland’s Championship promotion last season, Mundle played all 120 minutes in Sunderland’s FA Cup win over Everton on penalties.

The 22-year-old winger had not started for the Black Cats since their playoff final triumph over Sheffield United in May, but manager Regis Le Bris trusted him in a high-stakes match that ended 1-1 after extra time before Sunderland prevailed in the shootout.

Mundle showed glimpses of his ability against former Rangers full-back Nathan Patterson, though his final ball was inconsistent. While cup matches have offered him a rare chance in the starting XI, the return of Bertrand Traore and Clementine Talbi from the Africa Cup of Nations could limit his playing time in the league.

Le Bris defended his selection, highlighting the prestige of the FA Cup: “We want to go strong because we respect this competition… it is really prestigious, for the club as well. It’s important to make the right decisions now for the mood and ambitions of the club.”

Meanwhile, Rangers continue to advance their January plans, with Danny Rohl already preparing for a trip to Pittodrie while closing in on a £7m double deal for Tuur Rommens from Westerlo and Tochi Chukwuani from Sturm Graz.

Enquiries have also been made for Neil and Mundle, with the former Sunderland pair now firmly in the Ibrox radar.
