Joelinton’s status has been updated in anticipation of the upcoming season, following the early conclusion of 2024/25 due to a knee injury. Throughout the 2024/25 season, Newcastle United’s success was significantly influenced by Joelinton.
The Brazil international was a starter in six of the seven Carabao Cup matches, including the final, as United secured the silverware. Joelinton made the same impact in the Premier League, starting 29 of the first 33 matches as Newcastle qualified for the Champions League.
Nevertheless, the midfielder’s season was significantly impacted by a knee injury, resulting in his absence from the final five league games. This included the final four, during which United managed to accumulate only four points out of a possible twelve, ultimately failing to qualify for the Champions League.
It is of course the hope that Joelinton will be able to completely recover and be prepared for the significant 2025/26 Newcastle United season by preventing any further damage to his knee and cutting last season short. We have received an update on Joelinton from Brazil in advance of his return to Tyneside to commence the official pre-season. Joelinton has returned to his former club,
Sport Recife, which is located an hour’s drive from his childhood residence. In anticipation of his return to Tyneside, Newcastle United has been conducting preseason training to maintain his fitness levels. The knee/fitness situation appears to be favourable, as Joelinton informed TV Sport: “I train at the Club [Sport Recife] whenever I am on vacation.”
