Josh Windass breaks silence on Rangers return after Jim White question

Josh Windass has downplayed speculation linking him with a return to Rangers, despite recent transfer rumours.

The 32-year-old, who spent two seasons at Ibrox, has been in strong form for Wrexham in the Championship, with his attacking versatility reportedly catching Rangers’ attention during the last transfer window.

When asked directly about a potential return during an appearance on talkSPORT with Jim White, Windass laughed off the speculation, saying: “I don’t know who you heard that off, stop trying to cause trouble on here.”

windass keeps future open

Despite dismissing the rumours publicly, the links haven’t completely gone away. Windass previously worked under Danny Röhl at Sheffield Wednesday, adding another layer of intrigue to any potential move—though nothing materialised in January.

promotion could shape decision

Windass’ situation at Wrexham could prove decisive. The club are pushing for promotion to the Premier League, and with Windass never having played in the top flight, this may represent one of his final chances to reach that level.

He remains under contract until 2027/28, meaning Wrexham are in a strong position if any club—including Rangers—makes a move.

ibrox return still possible?

If Wrexham fall short in their promotion push, a return to Ibrox—especially with the lure of European football—could become more realistic. However, as things stand, Windass appears relaxed about the speculation, leaving his future very much dependent on how both clubs finish the season.
