Dean Windass has poured cold water on the latest Rangers transfer speculation involving his son.
Rangers boss Danny Rohl has suggested the club still have an outside shot at winning the Scottish Premiership this season, but after such a flat start to the campaign, it would take a remarkable turnaround. For that to happen, performances at Ibrox would need to improve significantly, while January recruitment would have to be spot on to give the Gers even the slightest hope.
One name linked with a possible return during the winter window is Josh Windass, with his father Dean responding to claims of Rangers interest.
Windass spent two seasons at Ibrox between 2016 and 2018, making 73 appearances before moving south. Since then, he has featured for Wigan Athletic, Sheffield Wednesday and now Wrexham, where he has scored six goals in 21 outings this season.
Reports from Ibrox Radio recently claimed Rangers had made an “official approach” to Wrexham over a January deal. While a reunion could make sense given Rangers’ attacking struggles, Dean Windass’ reaction to the claims has cast doubt over the story.
Josh Windass previously admitted he regretted leaving Rangers in the summer of 2018, a move that surprised many at the time. He later acknowledged that financial considerations influenced his decision.
Speaking on Open Goal last summer, Windass said: “I didn’t have an agent or anything. It was a bad decision. I was 23 and wanted a bigger wage. I was stupid.”
Now 31, Windass went on to score just nine goals in 56 appearances for Wigan, leaving lingering questions over what might have been had he stayed at Ibrox.
