Joshua Zirkzee reveals the hidden conversation he had with Erik ten Hag before scoring for Manchester United vs Fulham
Man United beat Fulham 1-0 on Friday night thanks to a goal from Joshua Zirkzee, who they signed in the summer.
Joshua Zirkzee said Erik ten Hag told him “to bring energy” to the team before he scored on his Manchester United start in Friday night’s win over Fulham.
After coming off the bench to play his first game for United with 61 minutes gone, Zirkzee scored the game-winning goal with three minutes left in normal time.
The Netherlands international, who joined United from Bologna in Italy last month, headed Alejandro Garnacho’s cross into the goal. Even though it was a light touch, it was enough for Fulham goalie Bernd Leno to miss.
Zirkzee made his mark in the best way possible, even though he didn’t make it off the bench in the Community Shield against Manchester City at Wembley last weekend and started the game against Fulham from the bench.
Zirkzee told Sky Sports, “It couldn’t have been better to win here in my first home game and score a goal.”
People at Man United have told me that scoring at the Stretford End is one of the best feelings there is. I’m just happy and blessed that I got to experience it in my first game. It was a wonderful feeling.
What did Ten Hag tell Zirkzee to do before he came on? “To bring energy and help the team as much as possible,” he replied. Yes, that!”
