As the 27 leaders of the European Union convene in Brussels for a summit amid a tumultuous geopolitical landscape, the President of the centre-right European People’s Party (EPP) addresses Euronews.

The summit is scheduled to commence at 11:00 CET, with Ukrainian President Zelenskyy contacting the leaders prior to lunch to provide a briefing on his conversation with President Trump on Wednesday.

Leaders will deliberate on two of the bloc’s most critical enquiries during the afternoon: how to enhance its economic competitiveness and how to prepare for potential military aggression.

The United Nations secretary-general, Antonio Guterres, will engage in a lunch meeting with leaders the day following the resumption of violence in Gaza as a result of Israel’s violation of the ceasefire agreement with Hamas. A UN staff member was slain in the violence.
