Kyle Allen will be signed by the Detroit Lions as their quarterback. Kyle Allen, a veteran quarterback, has purportedly reached an agreement with the Detroit Lions. Allen was signed by the Steelers to a one-year contract during the previous offseason.

After playing collegiately at Texas A&M (2014-2015) and Houston (2016-2017), he entered the league as an undrafted free agent in 2018. Last season, the Titans roster included Mason Rudolph, a free agent who Pittsburgh decided to re-sign. The Steelers roster also includes Skylar Thompson. Justin Fields has been signed by the New York Jets, while Russell Wilson has been touring prospective employers.

Allen, who is 29 years old, will commence his eighth season in the National Football League. Initially, the Carolina Panthers signed the 6-foot-3, 210-pound signal-caller. In addition to his brief tenures with the Buffalo Bills (2023) and the Houston Texans (2022), he also spent two years with the Panthers (2018-19) and the Washington Commanders (2020-21).

Allen was a reserve at Buffalo and appeared in seven games without attempting a pass. He has participated in 31 games during his seven seasons in the league, starting 19 of them. He completed 442 of 705 pass attempts, accumulating 4,753 yards and 26 touchdowns. Additionally, he has scored four touchdowns and accumulated 162 yards on 65 carries.

Last season, Detroit had Jake Fromm and Hendon Hooker on the roster, who were developing behind veteran starter Jared Goff. Allen is anticipated to vie with Hooker for the reserve position. Following his selection in the third round of the 2023 draft, the former SEC quarterback has studied under Goff and former offensive coordinator Ben Johnson.

Questions regarding Hooker’s future have arisen, and criticisms have intensified following the team’s decision to reinstate Teddy Bridgewater in the latter part of the 2024season. Bridgewater was actually the team’s reserve when the Lions faced the Commanders at Ford Field in the playoffs.
