Latest Europe News: Royal Prince Harry is ‘devastated’ following his legal battle with the United Kingdom government regarding police protection

Prince Harry expressed his “devastation” at losing his appeal regarding his security in Britain after resigning from his royal duties on Friday. He informed the BBC that he would “struggle to forgive” the decision and would be unable to bring his family to Britain in a secure manner.

Harry, the younger son of King Charles who has relocated to the United States with his wife Meghan, had attempted to reverse a decision made by the Home Office, the ministry responsible for enforcement.

In February 2020, a specialized organization determined that Harry would not be automatically granted personal police protection while in Britain. The High Court of London ruled that this decision was legal last year.

Three justices of the Court of Appeal upheld that decision on Friday, stating that Harry’s feelings of aggrievement were understandable but did not constitute an error of law.

Harry, who resides in California with Meghan and their two children, expressed his disappointment in the decision to the BBC, stating, “Obviously, pretty gutted about the decision.”
He further stated, “My status is unchangeable.” I am who I am, and I am a part of what I am. I am unable to avoid that.

Harry claimed that “security was used as leverage” to attempt to maintain him and Meghan within the royal family. However, he stated that he desired to reconcile with his family.
In the interview from California, he stated, “What I am currently struggling to forgive, and what I will likely always struggle to forgive, is that a decision made in 2020 that affects my every day and is knowingly putting me and my family in harm’s way.”
In reference to Harry’s legal case, Buckingham Palace stated, “The courts have meticulously and repeatedly examined all of these issues, and the same conclusion has been reached on each occasion.”
Judge Geoffrey Vos stated that Harry’s attorney had presented “powerful and moving arguments” regarding the consequences of the security change; however, this did not render the change unlawful.
The Home Office expressed its approval of the decision. “The protective security system of the United Kingdom is proportionate and rigorous,” it stated.
