Latest Injury news and return dates of Three (3) Manchester City player Mateo Kovacic, Phil Foden, and Rodri ahead of Premier League opener

All of the new injury news for City is over before their trip to Wolves next weekend.

Manchester City’s first Premier League game of the 2025–26 season is coming up in just six days.

On Saturday night, Pep Guardiola’s team goes to Wolverhampton Wanderers to try to get their title bid off to a good start in the West Midlands.

Before the season started, City beat Palermo 3-0 in Sicily. New signing Tijjani Reijnders scored twice, and Erling Haaland scored the third. It was an easy win at the Stadio Renzo Barbera.

A few players didn’t make it to Italy, though, and City is worried about their health going into the new season.

Take a look at this list of the most recent injuries.

Phil Foden

A hurt ankle

Foden couldn’t go to Palermo because he hurt his ankle, and Guardiola said he is racing against time to be ready for the Wolves game.

The City manager said, “He has an ankle problem, so we didn’t take a chance.” “I’m not sure [if he will play against Wolves].” It was painful, but he’ll be ready when he’s ready.

Wolves (a): Saturday, August 16 is a possible return date.

Rodri hurt his groin.

The winner of the Ballon d’Or last year missed most of the season because of a knee injury. He came back for the Club World Cup, but hurt his hip. Guardiola is worried that he won’t be able to play again until after the September international break.

“He is getting better, but he had a big [groin] injury in the last game [of the CWC] vs Al-Hilal,” said Guardiola.

“In the past few days, he’s trained better. He should be in great shape after the international break. We hope he can play some minutes in these games, but the most important thing is that he doesn’t hurt himself, because we don’t want Rodri to come back hurt.

“We will do everything we can to avoid that…” He has trained with us for the last two times, which is good.

United (h) – Sunday, September 14 is a possible return date.

Mateo Kovacic hurt his Achilles

It’s been a while since Kovacic last played for City. He missed the FA Cup final loss to Crystal Palace in May. He might not be able to play for another two months because of an injury to his Achilles.

Guardiola said, “He got hurt and missed the cup final.” “He thought getting some rest would help, but it didn’t.” There was pain and swelling in the heel muscle.
