Several Detroit Lions players have returned from substantial injuries during the offseason, and some of these absences will continue into the regular season.
One player who will be absent from the start of the regular season is linebacker Malcolm Rodriguez. In the team’s Thanksgiving victory, the Oklahoma State product sustained a torn ACL, which resulted in the end of his season. He was one of several defensive players who sustained substantial injuries.
Campbell anticipates that Rodriguez will resume play in November, as the injury typically necessitates a recovery period of approximately one year.
Campbell stated, “Yes, he will not commence the season.” “November, in a conservative manner.” Or perhaps that is the most appropriate way to express it; it is likely November. “Somewhere within that.”
Potential return games for Rodriguez, according to that timeline, include the Vikings (Nov. 2), the Commanders (Nov. 9), the Eagles (Nov. 16), the Giants (Nov. 23), or the Packers on Thanksgiving.
Rodriguez recorded 43 combined tackles, two pressures, and two tackles for loss in 10 games last season. In the absence of Derrick Barnes, he emerged as a stellar sub and assumed the starting position when Barnes sustained a season-ending knee injury in Week 3.
Rodriguez is one of several players who are anticipated to return during the midseason, including defensive lineman Alim McNeill. Campbell has previously indicated that McNeill is anticipated to miss the beginning of the season due to his recent recovery from a severed ACL sustained in December against the Bills.
