Ross Stewart’s unfortunate run with injuries continued on Saturday as he was forced off during the first half of Southampton’s 1-1 draw against Derby County.
The Scotland international has endured a difficult spell since joining the Saints from Sunderland in 2023, making only 27 appearances due to a series of fitness setbacks.
His latest problem came at Pride Park, with manager Will Still confirming that the 29-year-old suffered a hamstring injury. Although a scan will determine the severity, it’s a worrying development given Stewart’s long history of similar issues — especially since he had just begun to find form.
Frustratingly for both player and club, Stewart had recently become a vital part of Still’s plans. After being gradually eased back into action, he was making his ninth consecutive appearance for Southampton and third start in a week.
That run included a standout performance at Sheffield United, where he netted twice — one of them a stunning long-range strike. Against Derby, he again impressed with his movement and physical presence, serving as the team’s focal point until his withdrawal after 30 minutes, which noticeably reduced their attacking threat.
Supporters were left disheartened by the setback, and while the extent of the injury remains unclear, there is widespread concern and sympathy for Stewart as his tough luck continues.
