Newcastle United Injury Update: Tonali, Hall, Wissa & Livramento Latest Ahead of Fulham Clash
Newcastle United return to Premier League duty on Saturday as they welcome Fulham to St James’ Park (3pm kick-off).
After an impressive 3-0 Champions League victory over Benfica on Tuesday, Eddie Howe’s side will be aiming for a third straight home win in all competitions. However, they’ll also be looking to bounce back in league action following their 2-1 defeat to Brighton last weekend.
Marco Silva’s Fulham arrive on Tyneside with several absentees, including Rodrigo Muniz — last season’s match-winner at St James’ Park — as well as Antonee Robinson, Samuel Chukwueze, and Joachim Andersen.
But Newcastle have their own fitness issues to contend with, with a number of first-team players either sidelined or facing late fitness tests.
Sandro Tonali (Illness)
Tonali missed training earlier this week due to illness and was an unused substitute in the midweek win over Benfica. Although he has returned to training, Eddie Howe confirmed the Italian midfielder is still not fully fit and will be a late decision for the Fulham game.
A spot on the bench appears most likely, particularly after Lewis Miley’s strong showing against Benfica.
Expected return: October 25 – Fulham (H)
Lewis Hall (Hamstring)
Hall picked up a hamstring injury in the 4-0 Champions League win against Union Saint-Gilloise earlier this month. Three weeks later, the young defender is back in training and edging closer to a return.
Given his injury record this season, the club are unlikely to rush him back, but he could feature in the squad for next week’s home game against Tottenham.
Expected return: October 29 – Spurs (H)
Yoane Wissa (Knock)
Wissa sustained a minor knock in training last week and was left out of the squad for precautionary reasons. Newcastle’s medical team are hopeful he’ll be ready for selection against Fulham, but a late fitness test will determine his availability.
Expected return: October 25 – Fulham (H)
Tino Livramento (Muscle issue)
The right-back has been managing a minor muscle strain that ruled him out of the Benfica clash. While not a serious injury, Newcastle are monitoring his progress closely to avoid aggravation. Livramento is expected to return to full training shortly after the Fulham fixture.
Expected return: Early November
