Latest transfer update Trade Cincinnati Bengals Defensive end Trey Hendrickson to Detriot Lions

A Detroit Lions correspondent recently provided an update on the potential for the team to trade for Cincinnati Bengals edge player Trey Hendrickson.

The Detroit Lions fans’ ideal scenario has been for the team to trade for Trey Hendrickson, as they have been anticipating the organization’s response to their pass rush requirement.

After another exceptional season, Hendrickson has dedicated the remainder of the offseason to negotiating a contract extension with the Cincinnati Bengals.

Hendrickson has recently declared that he will not participate in the 2025 season under his current contract, and the two parties have yet to reach an agreement.

This has maintained the possibility of his availability for trade for those who are anticipating his availability.

Regrettably, it appears that the fate of Hendrickson on the trade market is of little consequence to Lions supporters.

Dave Birkett, a reporter for the Detroit Free Press, recently disclosed that the Lions have not provided him with any indication that they intend to pursue a trade for Hendrickson. He also stated that all indications suggest that such a transaction will not occur.

This is logical in light of the information we have already acquired about the Lions this offseason.

In the past, general manager Brad Holmes stated that the team was unable to afford to re-sign Za’Darius Smith.

If a team is unable to afford Smith, they are truly unable to afford Hendrickson.

It is a pity. Hendrickson has recorded 17.5 sacks in each of the past two seasons, and his 83 pressures were the most at his position in 2024. Teaming him with Aidan Hutchinson would provide the Lions with the most formidable pass rush in the NFL.

That could be the lone missing component for a Super Bowl contender that already boasted the NFL’s most impressive offense in 2025.

However, it appears that this is not to be the case, and Lions supporters will have to settle for the possibility that the organization is developing an alternative that is less costly.
