Latest update on Andy Robertson’s potential Celtic move after Tottenham snub

Liverpool left-back Andy Robertson is reportedly set to turn down a move to Tottenham Hotspur and instead favour a return to Celtic, according to a transfer insider.

The Scotland international has slipped down the pecking order at Anfield this season following the emergence of Milos Kerkez, and with just six months remaining on his contract, a departure from the Premier League champions looks increasingly likely.

Tottenham are said to be preparing a January bid for the 31-year-old, but Celtic have long been linked with bringing Robertson back to Glasgow on a free transfer at the end of the campaign. It is claimed the defender is more inclined to leave the Premier League altogether rather than join another English top-flight side.

Former Manchester United chief scout Mick Brown believes Robertson feels he has already achieved everything possible during his time at Liverpool and is now ready for a fresh challenge elsewhere.

Brown suggested that players who spend many years at one club often hesitate to join a domestic rival, instead opting to move abroad or return home. In Robertson’s case, a switch back to Scotland with Celtic is viewed as a realistic and appealing option, although the Hoops may face competition from clubs elsewhere in Europe.

Celtic are considered a strong stylistic fit for Robertson by data analysts at SciSports, with the club able to offer him regular playing time in a system that suits his strengths.

While a move may limit his long-term development, that is not expected to be a major concern at this stage of his career.

A lifelong Celtic supporter and a former youth player at the club, a return to Parkhead would represent a homecoming that makes sense both personally and professionally for Robertson.
