Rangers return to Scottish Premiership duty on Monday night when they host Hibernian at Ibrox.
Danny Röhl was left furious after Thursday’s Europa League exit, as Rangers suffered a 2–1 defeat away to Ferencváros in Budapest. Attention now turns back to domestic matters, with Hibs visiting Govan on 15 December and Rangers benefitting from an extra day’s recovery.
Changes are expected to Röhl’s starting XI, and the build-up to Christmas could make for a tense evening under difficult conditions.
Weather concerns ahead of Ibrox clash
While Celtic continue to struggle under Wilfried Nancy and Hearts have found form, Rangers know they must claim all three points to keep pace at the top end of the table. However, festive cheer may be in short supply as poor weather looms over Glasgow.
The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for heavy rain on 14 December, with potential flooding and travel disruption expected across the city.
Rangers vs Hibernian: recent meetings
Rangers edged out Hibs 1–0 at Easter Road in their most recent league encounter, with Danilo’s early strike proving decisive. Jack Butland’s late penalty save ensured victory in a game not without controversy.
That win followed a 2–0 success in the Premier Sports Cup earlier in the season, one of the final victories under former boss Russell Martin.
Hibernian, however, arrive in strong form under David Gray and are unbeaten since 25 November, having recorded wins against Falkirk, Dundee and St Mirren.
Kieron Bowie, Martin Boyle and Josh Mulligan will pose a threat, particularly in what is expected to be a physical contest in wet conditions.
With third place on the line at Ibrox — currently occupied by Motherwell — and a trip to Hearts at Tynecastle looming before Christmas, the pressure is mounting on Röhl to deliver results and strengthen Rangers’ title credentials.
