Legendary retired coach Sir Alex Ferguson gave his final decision: who is a better player between Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi?
He played for Sir Alex from 2003 to 2009 before moving to Real Madrid for £80 million.
Cristiano Ronaldo vs. Lionel Messi for GOAT will probably go on forever in the football world, and legendary retired manager Sir Alex Ferguson made his views on the debate very clear.
Messi and Ronaldo were the best football players in the world for about 15 years.
At Barcelona, Messi started out on the youth team and has gone on to win eight Ballon d’Or awards.
He won 10 La Liga titles and four Champions League titles with Barcelona, where he played for 778 games and scored 672 goals.
Messi has spent the last few years of his career at Paris Saint-Germain and now with Inter Miami in the MLS.
The 37-year-old has also had success with Argentina, where he won the World Cup in 2022 and two Copa America titles.
Messi and Ronaldo have had careers that are mostly similar because they have played against each other many times, with Ronaldo getting five Ballon d’Or awards.
Real Madrid sold Ronaldo to Manchester United for more than £12 million in 2003. He went on to win three Premier League titles and the Champions League at Old Trafford.
He left for Real Madrid in the summer of 2009 for a then-world-record £80 million, and he went on to play Messi a lot at Barcelona.
Real Madrid won four more Champions League titles and two La Liga titles with Ronaldo, who scored 450 goals in 438 games for the club.
Ronaldo then moved to Juventus in 2018 and then back to United in 2021. However, his second stint at Old Trafford ended when both sides agreed to end the deal, and he then moved to Saudi Pro League team Al-Nassr, where he still plays today.
Messi and Ronaldo have both had success on the world stage. With Portugal, Ronaldo won the Nations League and the European Championships.
If you remember, Sir Alex managed Ronaldo when he first played for United. He also managed Messi when he played for Barcelona. Messi scored in both the 2009 and 2011 Champions League games as Barcelona beat Old Trafford.
The former United manager, who retired in 2013, was asked which of Ronaldo and Messi he thought was better. He said that he couldn’t argue with people who say Messi is the best player in the world, but he did say that Ronaldo could play for more teams than Messi.
“People say who is the best player in the world? That was in 2015,” he told the Manchester Evening News. And many people say Messi, which is a valid view that you can’t argue with.
He could score three goals for Millwall, Queens Park Rangers, Doncaster Rovers, or any other team.
It’s not clear to me if Messi could do it. Ronaldo is brave, quick, and good in the air. Messi is also brave. What do you think? Messi plays for Barcelona.
