Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy’s stance revealed after wife Becky’s brief comment

Jamie Vardy Leicester City future teased by wife Rebekah as Foxes sack Marti Cifuentes

Leicester City are on the hunt for a new manager after sacking Marti Cifuentes following just six months in charge, with the club languishing in the bottom half of the Championship. The news coincides with comments from Jamie Vardy’s wife, Rebekah Vardy, who suggested a return to Leicester as a player-manager would be “interesting.”

The 39-year-old striker left Leicester last summer after 13 years and a remarkable career that included 500 appearances, 200 goals, and being the final member of the 2016 Premier League title-winning team. He now plays for Italian side Cremonese, where he has scored five goals since joining.

During a Q&A on Instagram, Rebekah was asked if Jamie and the family might return to Leicester as a player and manager. She replied: “I mean that would be interesting! 😂” When asked if Jamie would pursue management after retirement, she dismissed the idea, saying it was “extremely unlikely” and joking that he doesn’t have the patience for it while living with her and their five children. She added that Vardy still follows Leicester’s results “as painful as it is to watch…yes! Always.”

On the circumstances of Jamie’s departure, Rebekah added: “It’s not my story to tell! Just know it wasn’t a decision taken lightly. He loves you guys.”

Following Leicester’s 2–1 defeat to Oxford United on Saturday, the club acted quickly, relieving Cifuentes of his duties. Andy King, Vardy’s former teammate and now first-team coach, will take temporary charge while a permanent manager is sought.

Club chairman Top said in a statement: “This has been a difficult decision and not one I have taken lightly. I would like to thank Marti for the total commitment he has shown during his time at Leicester City. He gave everything to the role and worked tirelessly to help us achieve our targets. However, I believe this is the right step at this time to improve performances and results, and to act in the best interests of Leicester City Football Club. Marti leaves with our thanks and our best wishes for the future.”
