Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konate reacts to Gary Neville not giving him the Man of the Match against Wolves and chooses Ryan Gravenberch instead
Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konate was upset that he didn’t get the player of the match award for the game against Wolverhampton Wanderers. And it made him feel even worse when he learned that Gary Neville made the decision.
The Reds beat Wolves 2-1 on Saturday to move to the top of the table. Konate scored the first goal with a header in the first half. After Rayan Ait-Nouri tied the game, Mohamed Salah scored from the penalty spot to put Liverpool back ahead.
Neville gave Player of the Match to Ryan Gravenberch on Sky Sports commentary because he played so well in middle again.
Sky talked to both Konate and Gravenberch after the game, and Konate was asked to give the award to Gravenberch.
“Sky Sports, who picks the “man of the match”?” Laughed. “How is this possible?” I have to give it to my brother since it’s his. I scored in Milan, and I scored today… I didn’t deserve it, right?
“No, no, no! What happened?” You need to talk to them; I’m not sure who makes them decide.
And the defender asked who made the choice. When he was told it was the former Manchester United defender, he pulled a face. Gravenberch replied, “Thank you, Gary.”
