Liverpool defender returns to club and declared out till next year with injury – but surgery is not
required. This season, the England youth international has done exceptionally well on loan. Liverpool defender Luke Chambers has suffered an injury and is returning to the club for treatment. The England youth international returned to Wigan Athletic on loan during the summer transfer window, having spent the second half of last season at the League One club. Chambers has been a consistent starter for the Tics, contributing one goal and one assist in 11 games this season. But Chambers, who signed a new long-term contract with Liverpool in May after four appearances, has suffered a back injury. He will be out of action for an extended length of time and will be rehabbed at the Reds’ AXA Training Centre. However, the 20-year-old, who can play both left and centre back, is expected to avoid surgery.
The Wigan Post, our sister publication, was informed by Wigan chief Shaun Maloney that Luke has sustained a back injury. Maloney stated, “The prognosis is not favorable.” “We received that information yesterday; he will be absent for an extended period.” “It will be some time before you see him back on the field.”It will be months, not weeks, and it will certainly extend into the New Year. He will not require an operation; however, Liverpool will assume responsibility for his rehabilitation upon his return tomorrow. It is truly unfortunate for him that the specialists will become involved and assume responsibility for this matter. “I believe that there is a bit of history behind it; it is not a spontaneous occurrence or an impact injury that occurred in the past two or three years.” It is a great loss, as he was performing exceptionally well for us; he is likely our most valuable player this season.
