Arne Slot is of the opinion that it is “ridiculous” for anyone to doubt Trent Alexander-Arnold’s dedication to Liverpool this season, as the right-back has taken the Reds to the brink of the Premier League title. Alexander-Arnold celebrated his return to the pitch by scoring in the 76th minute, securing a 1-0 victory for Slot’s team against Leicester City on Sunday afternoon.
The Reds’ victory ensures that they are 13 points ahead at the summit and require only three additional points from their final five games to be crowned champions.
Despite the fact that Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah both signed new contracts on Thursday, Alexander-Arnold has yet to reach an agreement and is currently expected to depart on a free transfer in the summer, with Real Madrid aggressively pursuing his signature.
However, when questioned about the future of the right-back, Slot stated, “The headline today should be the goal he scored, not his contract.”
“However, I can assert that it would be absurd for someone to contest his dedication to this organisation.” In my opinion, his dedication to this club is beyond dispute, given the amount of effort he expended to return today and score such a significant goal, as well as the extensive work he has performed throughout his tenure.
“His outstanding accomplishment should be the subject of the headlines, rather than his contractual obligations.”
Alexander-Arnold was unable to play for nearly six weeks due to an ankle injury sustained during the Champions League defeat to Paris Saint-Germain. However, he scored a goal at the King Power Stadium shortly after being introduced.
However, Slot stated, “I do not believe I deserve any credit for that. If you had Trent on the bench and were aware that Conor (Bradley) was unable to play 90 minutes, I believe every manager in the world would have brought Trent on.”
Trent deserves the praise for his tireless efforts over the course of five and a half weeks, as well as the medical staff’s dedication to expediting his return to the squad.
“And that is why we were able to utilise him for 15 minutes, and I believe I ultimately had to use him for 27 minutes due to the additional time.”
Slot stated, “I do not believe that it was solely significant for him; it was significant for all Liverpool fans.” It is an important occasion, and prominent players prefer to experience significant moments in their careers.
“Virgil had one last week (against West Ham), and Mo has had them numerous times this season.”
“Players of Trent’s calibre are known for their ability to perform at the highest level when it is most needed.” When he entered the game against Newcastle in December, he did the same. In the second half against PSG, I was anticipating his goal, but he was forced to leave due to an injury.
The Liverpool players and supporters erupted in chaotic celebrations following Alexander-Arnold’s goal, which resulted in the player ripping off his shirt in joy.
