Already, Liverpool’s spectacular moves in the transfer market are turning heads and making fans even more eager for the next 2025/26 season. This is despite the fact that Liverpool only won the Premier League championship a few weeks ago.
After securing their 20th English title without bringing in any major upgrades during the summer of 2018, the Reds are now heading into what could be a historic transfer window. With the signing of Bayer Leverkusen superstar Florian Wirtz, they have the potential to break not only their own record but also the record for the most transfers in British history.
Liverpool are not showing any signs of slowing down, and it is anticipated that they will begin the new season with some noteworthy changes to Arne Slot’s roster. This is in addition to the fact that they have already welcomed Jeremie Frimpong, a teammate of Wirtz’s teammates who won the championship, as their first summer acquisition.
It is possible that the Premier League champions may appear to be an entirely different club when the 2025–2026 season begins. This is due to the fact that they have acquired two new full-backs and may also undergo a frontline makeover.
Two defenders and a goalkeeper
Virgil van Dijk, Alisson, Jeremie Frimpong, Ibrahima Konate, and Milos Kerkez are the key players.
Since his arrival in 2018, Alisson has been Liverpool’s primary choice in goal, and it is anticipated that he will continue to be a part of Slot’s starting eleven for the upcoming season. Giorgi Mamardashvili, a goalkeeper from Georgia who agreed to transfer to Anfield last summer, is expected to arrive from Valencia. This will result in an increase in the amount of competition that is offered to the club.
Although it has not been ruled out that another player would be added to the center defense, it is expected that the established duo of Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate will continue to play together. At the very least for another season, taking into consideration that Konate’s current contract would end in a little over a year, and Van Dijk signed a two-year agreement that was inked in April.
Frimpong entered the club from Leverkusen in a deal of £29.5 million, despite early anticipation that Conor Bradley may be elevated into a permanent starting post. Frimpong’s arrival came after Liverpool parted company with Trent Alexander-Arnold, and the club wasted no time in finding a right-back replacement.
In addition, the Reds are looking for a long-term replacement for Andy Robertson, who turned 31 in March and still has one year left on his contract. Discussions are currently taking place with Bournemouth on a potential £45 million transfer for left-back Milos Kerkez.
The midfielders
Florian Wirtz, Ryan Gravenberch, and Alexis Mac Allister came together.
In terms of midfielders, Liverpool was desperate to bring in a new defensive-minded option during the summer of 2017, and they were extensively associated with a transfer for Martin Zubimendi, who is now playing for Arsenal.
However, due to the remarkable turnaround that Ryan Gravenberch has experienced under Slot’s leadership, the team appears to be shifting their attention to the acquisition of an attacking player this year. It is anticipated that both Alexis Mac Allister and the Dutchman will continue to be included in the starting eleven for the upcoming season.
The Reds, on the other hand, are currently on the verge of completing a record-breaking transfer for the aforementioned Wirtz. Wirtz would add not just the maturity and creativity of a seasoned playmaker, but also positional versatility, as he is capable of operating both in attacking midfield and on either side.
It is anticipated that the Germany international will join Liverpool in a club-record deal that could be worth over £127 million. This would be a significant increase from the current British transfer record, which is held by Moises Caicedo’s move to Chelsea valued at £115 million.
