Newcastle United
Major Sven Botman 11 days prior to the Carabao Cup final against Liverpool, Newcastle United made an injury-related U-turn.
Botman is the fourth Newcastle player to be excluded from the Carabao Cup final against Liverpool on March 16, as well as the upcoming Premier League matches against West Ham United and Brentford preceding the Wembley excursion.
Botman, Lewis Hall, and Jamaal Lascelles are all out injured, while Anthony Gordon is suspended for all three matches. According to Mail Online, Botman is scheduled to endure knee surgery following what was initially referred to as a “knock” that necessitated his departure from the pitch during the 2-0
Carabao Cup semi-final victory over Arsenal at St James’ Park last month. “I do not believe it is a severe injury; however, it will suffice to prevent him from playing in the Birmingham game. We will evaluate him next week before we proceed to our next league match.” Howe subsequently stated that Botman was “close” to being involved in the most recent match against
Brighton & Hove Albion after returning to light training on Saturday. However, he did not feel “100%,” which resulted in his exclusion for the fifth consecutive match. Botman was advised that surgery would be the most effective method of resolving the issue after consulting with a specialist earlier this week.
Botman was also sidelined for the initial half of the previous season as a result of an additional anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury. The Dutchman will now be engaged in another fitness battle in an effort to regain his fitness before the conclusion of the
season, despite the fact that his current injury is not believed to be directly related to his previous ACL injuries. This is Newcastle’s second significant injury setback this week, following the club’s announcement that Hall would endure foot surgery. However, his character is exceptionally resilient, and he will recover from this.
We must ensure that he receives appropriate treatment for this severe injury, and we are optimistic that he will be entirely recovered by the start of the upcoming season. I am unsure of how to present it in a positive light, but I will make an effort. It presents an opportunity for other participants, and we must endeavour to identify a solution. We are currently faced with the task of regrouping, and we will do so.
