Tottenham hijack transfer as Manchester United identify two Bryan Mbeumo alternatives Despite Tottenham Hotspur’s interest in Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo,
Manchester United will not participate in a bidding war for the forward. Following a disappointing 2024-25 season, the Red Devils have been active in the transfer market, securing the signature of Wolves’ Matheus Cunha, being rejected by Liam Delap for Chelsea, and making an early approach for Mbeumo.
Nevertheless, Spurs have impeded their efforts to acquire the highly sought-after 25-year-old Cameroon international. Thomas Frank, the new manager, is eager to make Mbeumo the prominent summer signing after he left Brentford for Tottenham earlier this week. Spurs have since submitted a £70 million proposal for the
Bees’ star player, surpassing the £55 million offer made by United. ESPN reports that United will not exceed a specific price point for the former Troyes attacker and have other targets in mind if Spurs surpass them in a deal, despite Mbeumo’s preference to join United over all other clubs this summer.
If a deal for Mbeumo fails, Eberechi Eze and Antoine Semenyo, who have both been associated with United this summer, may become more prominent in the club’s plans.Eze, who is believed to be in the same price range as Cunha and Mbeumo, has a £68m release clause in his contract at Selhurst Park.
Spurs are also monitoring Semenyo, who has had an exceptional season in the Premier League, scoring 11 goals and earning five assists. Semenyo is reportedly valued at approximately £70 million by Bournemouth, and they are able to negotiate for that price due to the fact that several of their top-tier players have been sold.
Dean Huijsen has already been sold, and Milos Kerkez is expected to join Liverpool for approximately £45 million. Illya Zabarnyi is a target for Paris Saint-Germain at a price of £50 million. Although United have other targets in mind, they are anticipated to prioritize securing a deal for Mbeumo, given the player’s aspiration to relocate to Old Trafford.
