Manchester United were warned by Ruben Amorim before he even took the job that he wanted to rebuild the squad with players who bring real intensity. His first signing proved it: Lecce full-back Patrick Dorgu, a powerhouse known for his pace and physical edge.
That same philosophy shaped United’s summer window. They snapped up Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo — two forwards who play at full throttle, press aggressively, and attack with purpose. And now, Amorim reportedly wants another high-energy wide threat.
United table bid for Harvey Barnes
As reported by Fichajes, Manchester United have joined Chelsea in the race to sign Newcastle winger Harvey Barnes — and it’s claimed United have already lodged a €60m (£52.5m) offer.
United are said to be hunting for a wide attacker who can create chances and bring directness to their frontline, viewing Barnes as a perfect fit to “re-energise their attack.”
Newcastle, however, have little interest in losing one of Eddie Howe’s most trusted forwards.
Both United and Chelsea are reportedly ready to increase their bids if Newcastle push back on the opening offers.
Is Barnes the level United need?
Barnes, 27, has seven goals and two assists in 20 games this season. He’s always been known for his straight-line running, his ability to cut inside onto his right foot, and the defensive work he puts in when pressing or tracking back.
But his overall return — 21 goals in 83 matches for Newcastle — is not exactly elite for a club of United’s size. Shelling out a massive fee for someone who would likely be a rotation option at Old Trafford raises valid questions.
For now, the reports seem ambitious, and the speculation should probably be treated cautiously.
