Manchester United as INEOS determines his replacement. Erik ten Hag has been dismissed with immediate effect, and Ruud van Nistelrooy has been designated as the interim head coach of Manchester United. After nine matches, the Red Devils are currently ranked 14th in the Premier League table, following their 2-1 loss to West Ham on Sunday. And that was the final straw for the club’s co-owners, INEOS, who have decided to make a change. On Monday, United issued an official statement that verified Ten Hag’s dismissal after serving as the team’s manager for two and a half years. INEOS subsequently requested that Van Nistelrooy, who was appointed to Ten Hag’s backroom staff prior to the commencement of this season, assume responsibility on an interim basis. Van Nistelrooy scored 150 goals in 219 appearances during his five-year tenure as a player at Old Trafford. His sole prior managerial experience was with PSV Eindhoven, where he graduated from their reserve team in 2022 and served as the senior team’s manager for just over a year.

United reportedly apprised Ten Hag of their decision on Monday morning. For the time being, the remaining members of his backroom personnel are expected to continue in their roles, in addition to Van Nistelrooy. During the summer, Sir Jim Ratcliffe, the chief executive of INEOS, conducted a comprehensive evaluation of United’s managerial situation. This was in response to Ten Hag’s ability to guide the club to their lowest finish in the Premier League era, which was eight places. In the summer transfer window, Ten Hag was supported by a number of new high-level appointments, such as CEO Omar Berrada, sporting director Dan Ashworth, and technical director Jason Wilcox, who made a series of costly acquisitions. It is believed that the same triumvirate recommended a change in response to Sunday’s loss at the London Stadium. During the international break earlier this month, senior United figures convened in London, where they maintained strong connections with Thomas Tuchel. The German was ultimately appointed by England, and Ten Hag was granted another opportunity to improve his performance. However, he was dismissed nine days after domestic action resumed.
