Kyle Walker, the captain of Manchester City, has talked about a big regret he has about his time playing for England.

After taking Manchester United to their sixth Premier League title in seven years, the 34-year-old is now going to the European Championship to play for England.

The full-back has played in many international events since his first game for the Three Lions in November 2011, earning 83 caps for the England national team.

Prior to the upcoming game in Germany, Walker has talked about an event in his England career that he now knows should have gone differently.

During a recent episode of You’ll Never Beat Kyle Walker, the experienced defender wasn’t afraid to talk about his biggest regret about playing for England. He talked about the penalty shootout loss to Italy in the final of Euro 2020.

“I was more thinking about how sorry I was for the boys who had missed than how great the tournament had been,” he said.

“I guess that’s just how I am as a person. As much as I didn’t want to be in the firing line and miss a penalty, I think they were young and maybe I should have taken the penalty myself to spare them the attention they got from the media, but good luck to them, and I hope that made them into the great footballers they are now.”

Walker has shown how smart he is.

When we think back to the final against Italy, the score was 1-1 after extra time at Wembley Stadium.

The home team lost 3-2 on penalties because Marcus Rashford, Bukayo Saka, and Jadon Sancho all missed their shots. Neither of them started the game.

Walker has now stated that he should have volunteered to take the penalty shot so that he would be the one to take the blame if he missed instead of the three young players who did. This shows how professional he is and how much he cares about his teammates.

As the tournament approaches, it will be interesting to see if the City captain, who Ivan Toney recently said has what it takes to become a great boss one day, has to take a penalty if England get into another shootout at any point during the event.
