To their credit, Manchester City beat Ipswich 4-1 in their first Premier League home game of the season, even though they were missing two key players and had to replace one who got hurt.

Mateo Kovacic will be checked out after running the risk of getting hurt for Manchester City on Saturday.

As Kovacic made his second start of the season, he looked good. But early in the second half, he took a kick to the back of the leg and had to leave the game against Ipswich. He later limped down the tunnel, adding to Rodri’s list of injuries for City.

Phil Foden had already been ruled out because he was sick, and Rodri wasn’t in the matchday team because he hadn’t trained fully since getting back from vacation a few days before the season began. Oscar Bobb is still out for a long time because he broke his leg on the last day of the season and will not be able to work for four months.

Guardiola said after the easy win over Ipswich, “I didn’t talk to the doctors.” It was probably a knock. From this, we know that Liam Delap is very angry about that. We’ll see if he can get better in the six to seven days until the next game.

John Stones replaced Kovacic, and Ilkay Gundogan played the last 20 minutes to give Guardiola more options in the middle of the field.

The boss had said this about Rodri before the game against Ipswich: “He’s fine. He hurt himself with the national team and still has some niggles, but I saw him yesterday [Thursday] and I’d say he’s pretty good.” It’s only a matter of time before he joins the group again for training on Friday.
