Pep Guardiola, the boss of Manchester City, talked about Phil Foden and Kevin De Bruyne before their Champions League game.

When Phil Foden came off the bench against Newcastle, Pep Guardiola said he saw something in him that he didn’t see against Watford. Foden is trying to get his season going for Manchester City.

Foden was great last year. He won three of England’s top individual awards for helping City beat Arsenal and Liverpool to win their fourth straight Premier League title. But he hasn’t been able to get going again under Guardiola since the poor European Championship with England, where he had trouble making a difference in games.

Foden has missed a few games because he was sick, but when he has been healthy, he has mostly played off the bench. The only game he has started is the league cup game against Watford. Guardiola has chosen the experienced Ilkay Gundogan when Kevin De Bruyne isn’t available.

Guardiola doesn’t know if De Bruyne will be able to play again before the next international break because of the thigh injury that kept him out against Inter two weeks ago. Fans of City don’t know if Foden will get a chance to play on Tuesday against Slovan Bratislava without the Belgian, but his boss is pleased with how he is developing.

Guardiola said, “He will be back as soon as he feels good.” “I liked something about him in the 30 minutes he played at St. James Park that I didn’t see against Watford.”

“We can’t forget that after the Euros, we didn’t train for two months and had some issues and sore spots.” Now and then he smiles in time with his beat. We can’t forget what we did without him, but he’s an important player for us, and I’m sure he’ll be back to help us like he has since he joined Man City because he loves football so much.
