Manchester City’s second summer preseason game was last night against AC Milan.
Once upon a time, Pep Guardiola’s team lost to Celtic. The boss was eager for his team to get back to winning ways at the Yankee Stadium in New York.
It was another loss for City against the big Italian team, though.
Milan won 3-2, with two goals from Lorenzo Colombo. Another goal was scored by Marco Nasti. City’s goals came from Erling Haaland and James McAtee.
Oscar Bobb was City’s star player again. He shone on the right side and made his case for more minutes in 2024/25 even stronger.
Pep made an interesting choice about Ederson during this game, who didn’t impress any of the local news outlets.
Pep makes the Brazilian Ederson captain of Man City because he is “frustrated” with how he played in Milan’s loss.
In the past few weeks, there has been a lot of talk about Ederson and his future at the club.
Saudi teams want to sign him. Al-Ittihad has been trying to sign him for the last week or so.
It is said that Ederson has given the move the go-ahead. There hasn’t been a deal between the two teams yet, though.
Even though there was a lot of talk, Ederson played for City again last night against Milan. And Pep gave him the captain’s armband as a possible sign of love from the boss. Sometimes, managers will do this when a player is rumored to be leaving the team.
Before the game, there were also rumors that Ederson did not like how people reacted to the save Stefan Ortega made against Tottenham Hotspur last season. Some said that the Brazilian would not have made the save himself.
It has since been proven false by the player.
Ederson didn’t have the best game last night against Milan. He played just under 80 minutes.
The Manchester Evening News gave him a score of 5/10 and said, “Pep Guardiola desperately wants Ederson to stay after calling him back and making him captain.” Early on, he made two great saves, but he will be very upset that he let two Lorenzo Colombo shots go through him at the back post. He is aware that he can do better.
Ederson played for City last night against Milan, and it makes you wonder if all the recent talk about him might have hurt him in that game.
Any Ederson in top form would have had no trouble stopping all three of their goals.
Nasti’s last goal looked like it should have been pushed wide, but the £35 million Brazilian just couldn’t do it.
We will now check to see if anything has changed with Ederson’s possible departure from the club. But let’s hope that a quick answer can be found.
There should never be a lot of talk about a key player before the season starts.
